IJAN and the New Dar-ul-Islam Movement Clarified

The Imam Jamil Action Network (IJAN) is the political advocacy arm of the political/legal campaign to free and exonerate Imam Jamil Al-Amin, the former H. Rap Brown. The leadership of IJAN, with its Amir Bilal Sunni-Ali and its Deputy Amir Imam Luqman Al-Sadiq, are members of the New Dar-ul-Islam Movement. Please note, that it is not a requirement to be a member of the New Dar-ul-Islam Movement or even Muslim in order to support or join IJAN.

The New Dar-ul-Islam Movement is a National and International movement that recognizes Imam Jamil Al-Amin, the former H. Rap Brown, as its Amir. Imam Jamil Al-Amin has appointed Imam Isa Abdul Kareem as his acting Amir in his stead till his return from being a falsely charged Political Prisoner.

The New Dar-ul-Islam Movement will also be hosting a Boys Summer Camp from Monday, July 3rd, through Friday / Jumu’ah July 7th; located at William Umstead State Park in Raleigh, NC.

The New Dar-ul-Islam Movement, in conjunction with IJAN, is hosting the Imam Jamil Riyadah™ Retreat. To be held  Saturday, July 8, 2023, at William Umstead State Park in Raleigh, North Carolina. Saturday, July 8, will be a full day of workshops and reports presented by both IJAN and the New Dar-ul-Islam Movement.

There will also be a basketball 🏀 tournament on Sunday July 9th from 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at the Islamic Association of Raleigh (IAR) in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The New Dar-ul-Islam Movement and IJAN are both very aware that the National Community known as Al-Ummah is hosting an event that they also call the Riyadah in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Friday July 14-16th, 2023. 

Al-Ummah used to be the national community under Imam Jamil Al-Amin. IJAN used to be part of it until three years ago. Al-Ummah claims to have officially broken its allegiance to Imam Jamil Al-Amin in March 2002 following his conviction and sentencing to life in prison without the possibility of parole. During the entire span of time of approximately 18 years that this position was held, Al-Ummah never publicly announced it, nor communicated it to its own body,  or to IJAN . Yet Al-Ummah continues to commercially exploit the Imam with their public usage of his name and image without his authorization. Al-Ummah also does not recognise the acting Amir whom Imam Jamil assigned to take over in his absence. Due to these reasons,  IJAN and Imam Jamil himself are no longer affiliated with Al-Ummah.

This is a sad case. We sincerely hope that Al-Ummah returns to recognising Imam Jamil as its Amir, reestablishes baya’ah, and acknowledges the acting Amir that Imam Jamil has assigned.  Despite this internal division that has slithered its way into the Islamic movement by way of the forces of Shaytan, we hold to the fact that we all remain united as part of the general body of the Ummah of Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, (Peace be Upon him), i.e the worldwide Muslim Ummah/community.

Furthermore, while Allah is sufficient as disposer of our affairs, it is the position of Imam Jamil Al-Amin and IJAN that the utilization of his name and likeness without his permission is haram as it is based in deception and misleading the public. We will work with Kairi Al-Amin, attorney for Imam Jamil, to explore all legal avenues available to prevent the unauthorized commercial exploitation of the Imam’s name or likeness.

We pray that this Fitnah be resolved quickly and that the bond of brotherhood be restored stronger and more unified than before. We also pray that this notice clarifies the issue of the two Jamaats as well as the two events.
